Cotton was introduced to China in two paths:first path is from South-east asia to Yunnan and Guizhou,later spreading to Fujian,Guangdong and Sichuan.This path is for  asian cotton from India;The second path ：African cotton is  introduced into Xinjiang and Hexi corridors through West Asia, and then spreading to the Yellow River and Yangtze River basins。

Before Yuan dynasty,the main cotton-growing region was Xinjiang in North China and Yun-Gui area in South China.Untill Han dynasty,cotton products were very scarce and expensive in central China.In Tang dynasty and Song dynasty(AD 1000 or so),Cotton begins to spread to Central China.Cotton growing becomes very common after Yuan dynasty.
